Three new versions include

New tabs at the top of the new version provide easier navigation in - with simple access to any activity center from any area you are working in. Now you can be working with the checkbook register, then with a click on the Property and Debt tab to check your loan balance. The intuitive tabbed navigation makes getting around in this edition easier than ever before.
To ease navigation even further, the Home page and the activity centers keep related financial information summarized in one place for quick viewing. The Home page shows your personal projected cash flow and summarizes your personal finance data in easy-to-understand visual reports.

The account bar, available in all Quicken 2010 versions except Starter Edition, lists all your financial accounts on the left side of the page. The account bar shows net worth and account balances for each account organized by cash flow accounts, investment accounts and property and debt. You can customize the account bar by adding or removing accounts and collapsing or opening accounts for more in-depth viewing.
Now with Quicken 2010, you can collapse the account bar entirely to open up space for working with and viewing reports and data.

  • The Cash Flow center gives you snapshots views of your cash, checking, savings and credit card accounts plus alerts for upcoming bills and deposits.

  • The Financial Overview shows income tax planning, net worth and savings plan data.

  • The Investing and the Property and Debt centers displays information about your investment accounts, home, cars and other property and loans you have open.

The Billminder gadget, available for computers running Windows Vista operating system, keeps you informed of a number of personal finance events on your desktop without opening the program. It stays open in a small window on your desktop when it is closed, and it updates and refreshes hourly unless you click the refresh button to get immediate updates. Set up the Billminder Gadget to automatically show scheduled bills, deposits and online payments that are coming due, financial alerts, upcoming checks to print, investment reminders and calendar notes.

Transaction tags provide a way to differentiate between similar transactions that fall into the same category. Transfers between accounts can be tagged as well, which is especially helpful because transfers cannot be categorized.

My Savings Plan adds a new dimension to budgeting in the 2010 edition. My Savings rolls unspent, budgeted funds over into the next month and accumulates these dollars month after month. If you overspend, it lets you know by how much so you can compensate for the deficit in your budget. My Saving Plan works especially well for managing budgeted monthly expenses that vary by month, like utilities.

This software tracks 529 accounts for education savings. You can use it to download the initial account information for your 529 plan from compatible brokerage accounts, but you must mark the account as being tax-deferred. 529 plans can also be added manually just as an investment account would be added.

You can use Express Online Setup to establish your Paypal account for easy access.

Getting your investments together and tracking your spending habits is a huge step forward in becoming a better investor. For myself, I found this to be one of the best moves I have ever made to improve my financial status. It gave me great insight into where I was spending frivolously on stuff I just didn't need. This can and did add up fast on my financial statement which told me I needed to get a grip on my spending.

By organizing and viewing my spending habits I was able to limit my losses on items I use to by that had no value in the long run. Now I look at my spending in a whole different way, I'm very investment oriented and it has mage a huge difference in the bottom line of my financial statement. I spend less frivolously and invest more carefully in my every day ventures.

Now my retirement fund look much healthier that it ever did, thanks to this software making me look at all my spending habits.

There is a great budgeting feature that can help you to maintain a household budget. Whether you are new to using this software or you have been using it for awhile, you will find tips and tutorials for setting up and using budget here.

Backing up your personal finance data is important, and you need to back up data files when you install a new version of the software, or migrate to another financial software that will convert and import the data.

You will not find new money management tools in 2010, but this personal finance software has been around so long that there's really nothing more to add to it. What 2010 offers is enhanced ease-of-use.

All in all 2010 improvements are still a great big step forward - truly what we have come to expect from this software every year!
